Craig Maddox becomes the 44th Manger in Franchise History
Craig Maddox, Field Manager
Maddox returns to Billings for his third season as manager of the Mustangs and fourth season with the team, after previously being the team's Hitting Coach in 2023. Maddox, 41, played college ball at Southeastern University and was signed by the Detroit Tigers out of college. Maddox spent some time in the Braves organization in 2009 before spending the next 11 seasons playing Independent League baseball. He spent time in the Canadian-American Association, which has since merged with the Frontier League, the Northern League, the American Association and the Atlantic League. He also played two seasons in the Australian Baseball League, playing one season with the Adelaide Bite and one with the Melbourne Aces. He finished his minor league playing career in 2019 after splitting time with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (Atlantic League) and the Rockland Boulders (Canadian-American Association).
In 2021, Maddox moved into coaching and was named the Hitting Coach for the San Francisco Giants rookie league affiliate, the AZL Giants Orange, he stayed there through the 2022 season before joining the Mustangs as their Hitting Coach in 2023.
Dennis Rasmussen, Pitching Coach
Rasmussen, 67, returns to the Mustangs for his fourth season as Mustangs Pitching Coach. He was a first-round draft choice of the California Angels who went on to pitch twelve years in the major leagues. During that time, he compiled a 91-77 won-loss record with a 4.15 ERA. His best season came in 1986, when he led the New York Yankees staff with a record of 18-6 and was second in the American League in hits per nine innings with a rate of 7.12 (trailing only Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens). Rasmussen went on to pitch for the Reds, Padres, Cubs, and Royals before retiring after the 1995 season. He later served as a pitching coach in both the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox organizations, beginning his coaching career in Montana with the Pioneer League's Butte Copper Kings.
Joel Hartman, Hitting Coach
Hartman, 41, returns for his third season as Mustangs Hitting Coach. A Bradenton, FL native, he played 3 years collegiately at Southeastern University from 2002- 2005, winning a national championship, before finishing his college career at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He signed his first professional contract with the Golden Baseball League in 2007 and went on to play in multiple independent leagues, including the Continental League, Frontier League, and Pecos League. After retiring as a player, Hartman began mentoring elite high school and college baseball players through Prospect Dugout. Three years later, he initiated professional baseball tryouts with Prospect Dugout and has helped more than 100 players sign professional baseball contracts.
Brian Greisman, Assistant Pitching Coach
Greisman, 32, returns to the Mustangs for his second season as Assistant Pitching Coach. He has also served as an assistant coach for the Montana State University Billings baseball team for the past two seasons. He spent the 2023-24 seaosn as the Pitching Coach at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, now known as Nelson University in Waxahachie, TX. In the summer of 2023, Greisman was Pitching Coach of the Warham Gatemen in the Cape Cod League. He spent his collegiate playing days at Murray State College and Wichita State University before playing professionally for the Plattsburgh Thunderbirds of the Empire Professional Baseball League.
