The Billings Mustangs (27-9) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Idaho Falls Chukars (12-25) on Tuesday night at Dehler Park, falling 10-3 in Game 1 and 11-9 in Game 2.
The losses mark the first time this season the Mustangs have suffered consecutive defeats.
Idaho Falls took control early in the opener, scoring eight runs in the first inning before adding two more in the second to build an early lead.
Billings answered with two in the bottom of the first on a Jacob Gutierrez two-run single and Michael Soper added an RBI single in the second to make the score 10-3.
Neither team scored over the final five innings as Mitch Dye provided a bright spot for the Mustangs, tossing five scoreless innings in relief to preserve the bullpen.
The Mustangs struck first in Game 2, scoring four runs on just one hit in the second inning. Billings took advantage of two hit batters to drive in runs, a bases loaded walk and an RBI fielder's choice.
The Chukars responded with four runs of their own in the top of the third, evaporating the Billings advantage to tie the game 4-4.
Idaho Falls broke the tie with another four-run frame in the fifth to take an 8-4 advantage.
The Mustangs cut the deficit to 8-6 in the bottom of the fifth, but each team scored three runs in the sixth to keep it a two-run game entering the seventh and final inning.
A.J. Shaver appeared to open the home half of the seventh with a solo home run, but the drive to right was ruled foul. The Mustangs were retired in order after the call as the Chukars completed the sweep of the twin bill.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Wednesday night as they continue their four-game series with the Chukars. Right-hander Julian Garcia is expected to start for Billings with first pitched scheduled for 6:35 pm.
