Mustangs Storm Back to Snap Two-Game Skid
Jul 1, 2026

The Billings Mustangs (28-9) rallied from a six-run deficit on their way to an 11-8 victory over the Idaho Falls Chukars (12-26) at Dehler Park on Wednesday night.

After losing two in a row for the first time this year last night in a doubleheader sweep, Billings jumped right back into the win column.

Idaho Falls struck first with four runs in the third inning to take an early 4-0 lead.

The Mustangs answered with two runs in the fourth as Jacob Gutierrez and John McHenry each delivered two-out RBI singles to cut the deficit in half.

The Chukars appeared to take control with another four-run frame in the sixth, extending their advantage to 8-2.

The home squad responded immediately, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within one. Kyle Micklus highlighted the rally with a bases-clearing three-run double.

The Mustangs completed the comeback in the seventh as Gutierrez led off with a solo home run to tie the game 8-8. The long ball was his second of the season and snapped a season-long three-game drought for Billings without a home run.

After Michael Soper doubled, Bodee Wright later drove him home with an RBI triple to give the Mustangs their first lead of the night. One batter later, A.J. Shaver added insurance with a two-run homer, his tenth of the year, to extend the lead to 11-8.

Julian Garcia took a no-decision after going the first six innings for the Mustangs. Lucas Hartman (2-1) earned the victory with three scoreless innings of relief while Mason Collins (0-2) suffered the loss for Idaho Falls.

Billings has now won all seven games started by Garcia this season.

The Mustangs and Chukars conclude their four-game series on Thursday night at Dehler Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm as Billings looks to split the series.
