The Billings Mustangs (31-10) closed out their series against the Great Falls Voyagers (16-26) with a 20-7 victory on Sunday at Voyager Stadium, taking two of three games and reducing their magic number to clinch a first half playoff berth to three.
Billings scored once in the first inning before breaking the game open in the second. The Mustangs took advantage of five walks in the second inning to score six runs and build a 7-0 lead against former Billings pitcher Harry Orth. The right-hander was charged with 13 runs against his former club in his Great Falls debut.
Making his Mustangs debut, True McEvoy earned the win after holding the Voyagers to two runs on two hits over the first five innings. The former Portland Maverick ran into trouble in the sixth and finished the day allowing six runs over five-plus innings.
The Mustangs offense continued their historic pace as every player reached base at least once and they scored 20 or more runs for the fifth time this season. The team's .354 collective batting average and .461 on-base percentage are both on pace to shatter the franchise records.
Jacob Gutierrez, Bodee Wright and Charlie Muniz each homered, while Cameron Bowen turned in a 6-for-7 performance with three singles, three doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.
The Mustangs are off on Monday before they play host to the Red Pocket Mobiles for a three game series beginning Tuesday night. First pitch from Dehler Park is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
