The Billings Mustangs (19-5) opened a three-game series in Missoula with a historic 27-7 beatdown of the PaddleHeads (13-12) on Tuesday night.
Billings set a franchise record with nine home runs, tied the franchise mark with 30 hits and saw A.J. Shaver hit for the cycle for the second time this season.
Missoula scored the game's first run in the opening inning before the Mustangs erupted for five runs in the second. Shaver delivered the go-ahead hit in the inning with a two-run double that gave Billings a 2-1 lead.
The PaddleHeads responded with two runs in the bottom of the second and loaded the bases with two outs, but Julian Garcia struck out Xavier Casserilla to end the threat and preserve a 5-3 Mustangs lead.
From there, the Billings offense took over to create a comfortable cushion.
Shaver completed his second cycle of the year with a three-run homer in the eighth inning, finishing the night 5-for-6 with seven RBI and four runs scored. The center fielder previously hit for the cycle on May 23 against the Glacier Range Riders at Dehler Park.
Cameron Bowen also drove in seven runs, collecting a team-high six hits with two home runs.
Additionally, Kyle Micklus and Sean Lynch each homered twice, while Charlie Muniz and John McHenry added home runs of their own as part of the record-setting offensive outburst.
Garcia (4-0) earned the win after allowing four runs (three earned) across six innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high nine batters while recording his third consecutive quality start.
The Mustangs and PaddleHeads continue their three-game series on Wednesday night in Missoula. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
