The Billings Mustangs (6-2) erased a four-run deficit and erupted for 10 runs in the seventh inning to beat the Idaho Falls Chukars (1-7) 16-6 on Wednesday night at Dehler Park.
The Mustangs struck first with two runs in the opening inning on a Patrick Mills two-run single. Idaho Falls answered with a solo home run from Wes Mitchell in the fourth before pushing ahead with a five-run fifth to grab a 6-2 lead.
Billings responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game with four runs in the frame. Two the runs scored on a Chukars errors as Idaho Falls committed four miscues in the game.
Still tied 6-6 entering the seventh, the Mustangs broke the game open by sending 13 men to the plate while scoring 10 times in the inning. Patrick Mills continued to torment Chukars pitching as he hit a bases clearing three-run triple and Charlie Muniz homered for a third consecutive game with a two-run shot.
Ritter Steinmann (1-0) earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings in relief. Jordi Romero (0-2) suffered the loss for Idaho Falls.
The Mustangs and Chukars continue their six-game series on Thursday night at Dehler Park. Left-hander Jackson Betancourt is expected to start for Billings against Idaho Falls right-hander Wilton Castillo. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
