A six-run third inning proved too much to overcome as the Billings Mustangs (42-13) fell to the Glacier Range Riders 9-3 on Wednesday night at Glacier Bank Park.

Glacier struck early, scoring two runs in the first before adding another in the second to build a 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs answered with a pair of runs in the third to draw within one. Billings looked poised for an even bigger inning after loading the bases with one out, but a line-drive double play ended the threat.

The Range Riders immediately responded in the bottom half, plating six runs as they sent eleven to the plate to extend their lead to 9-2.

Billings managed a run in the sixth inning, but could not generate a rally despite outhitting Glacier 9-8. The Mustangs issued ten walks, allowing the Range Riders scoring opportunities.

The loss marked just the second series defeat of the season for Billings as Glacier took the first two games of the three-game set. Both series losses for the Mustangs have come against the Range Riders.

The Mustangs will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday night when right-hander Jaden Harris (3-0) takes the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
