The Billings Mustangs (13-3) saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end in a 12-6 defeat to the Boise Hawks (11-6) on Saturday night at Dehler Park.
The Mustangs opened the scoring in the second inning when Bodee Wright connected with his first home run to give Billings a 1-0 lead.
Boise tied the game in the third inning before Michael Soper delivered an RBI single in the fourth to put Billings back in front 2-1.
The Hawks answered again in the fifth to tie things up, but the Mustangs regained the lead in the home half when Kyle Micklus launched a two-run homer, his first of the season, to make it 4-2 Billings.
Mustangs starter Harry Orth turned in his second consecutive quality start, allowing two runs across six innings in a no-decision.
The game flipped in the eighth inning when Boise scored six runs against the Billings bullpen to take an 8-4 lead.
The home squad continued to fight, responding with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, including Wright's second long ball of the game. The Mustangs had the bases loaded with one out while trailing 8-6 in the inning, but Hawks reliever Ryan DuSang induced an inning-ending double play off the bat of Charlie Muniz to preserve the lead.
Boise then added four more runs in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring in a game that saw Billings commit five errors.
Hayden Mullins (2-1) suffered the loss for Billings while Dom Spinoso (2-0) earned the win and DuSang (3) notched the save.
The Mustangs and Hawks conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Dehler Park. David Hankins is expected to pitch for Billings. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm.
