The Billings Mustangs (13-2) extended their winning streak to nine games on Friday night with a 17-8 victory over the Boise Hawks (10-6) at Dehler Park in the opener of a three-game series.

Boise jumped out quickly with four runs in the top of the first inning against Billings starter Josh Tucker, but the Mustangs answered immediately with four runs of their own in the bottom half.

Michael Soper started the comeback with a solo home run, his third of the season, before Demias Jimerson connected on a two-run shot in his first game back after being activated from the injured list.

The Hawks regained the lead with a run in the second inning to make it 5-4, but the Mustangs responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame and never trailed again. Charlie Muniz delivered the go-ahead knock with a two-run single to put the Mustangs in front 6-5.

Billings added two more runs in the fourth inning, including Jimerson's second homer of the night.

After Boise trimmed the deficit to 11-7 with two runs in the fifth, the Mustangs broke the game open with five more runs in the sixth.

Jimerson finished the night with five hits, two home runs and seven RBI in his return to the lineup.

Cole Calnon (2-0) earned the win in relief after delivering six innings of quality work, allowing three runs (two earned). Carlos Anziani pitched the final two innings for the Mustangs to seal the victory. Oscar Fernandez (0-2) took the loss for Boise.

The Mustangs and Hawks continue their three-game series on Saturday night at Dehler Park. Harry Orth is expected to start for Billings. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
