Raymond Gil's Three-HR Game Hands Mustangs L
Mustangs fall 22-9 in series opener.
Mustangs suffer a three-home run night by Raymond Gil as they fall 22-9 to Ogden Tuesday night.
Mustangs newcomers Dustin Crenshaw and Gary Lora both achieved some milestones. In the eighth, Lora hit his first professional home run to spark a four run inning. Crenshaw collected his first professional double to score two runs.
Ogden starting pitcher Adrian Santa Cruz picked up his first career quality start, giving up just five runs, only one earned, on seven hits over six innings of work.
Mustangs starter James Deloatch received the loss giving up eight runs on seven hits with two walks over three and a third innings.
The Raptors got on the board in the second with an RBI single by third-baseman Landen Barnes, and a Chris Coipel three-run home run.
The Raptors exploded for five more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Right-fielder Pearce Howard hit a RBI single, while Gil collected his first home run - a three run shot. Connor Bagnieski collected an RBI single to go up 9-0.
Billings showed life in the fourth after Santa Cruz retired the first nine Mustangs he saw. Dustin Crenshaw led off the fourth with a single, while Brendan Ryan reached on an error. Connor Denning walked to load the bases, and Pat Mills hit a two-RBI single. Abe Valdez checked in with a two-RBI double to bring the Mustangs within five by a score of 9-4.
Unfortunately, six more scored for Ogden in the fifth inning with two separate RBI triples, three batters hit by a pitch, two errors, and a walk for a run scored. The Raptors led 15-4 and didn't look back.
Ryan collected an RBI single in the home half of that inning to bring the score to 15-5.
Gil hit his second homer of the night in the top of the sixth to re-extend the Ogden lead to 16-5.
Copel hit his fourth RBI of the night in the top of the eighth, while Jack Cone hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 18-5 game.
Lora and Crenshaw made their mark on the game in the bottom of the eighth, but another four runs would score in the top of the ninth with a pair of two-run home runs. Cole Jordan hit his second home run of the season, while Raymond Gil hit his third homer to go up 22-9 - the final score.
