BILLINGS-Billings Mustangs LHP Ethan McRae has been named Pioneer League North Division Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 22-28.
McRae earns the award on the strength of an excellent start on Sunday afternoon against the Missoula Paddleheads. Against the highest-scoring offense in the league, McRae threw 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits and one run, with one walk and five strikeouts in a 102-pitch masterpiece.
While McRae did not earn a victory for his performance, he was a major factor in a 3-2 victory for the Mustangs in that game, which allowed Billings to split the six-game series against the PBL's top club.
The start was the longest of McRae's four outings in a Mustangs uniform, and he allowed the fewest hits, runs, and walks of any of his outings while setting a high for strikeouts as a Mustang.
After leading the Pecos League with a 2.55 ERA this summer, McRae has gone 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA in Billings, striking out 14 and walking six over 21.1 innings pitched.
McRae joins a crowded list of Mustangs to earn Player of the Week honors. Jalen Garcia earned a Player of the Week award, while Kelvan Pilot has earned a Pitcher of the Week nod on three occasions, and Elijah Gill and Jean Correa have each been honored once.
